Video Literacy Narrative

The video literacy narrative assignment was definately out of the ordinary for me. It forced me out of my normal thinking process into a new avenue of creative expression. I chose the topics to discuss by simply thinking about the memories surrounding the development of literacy that were dearest to me; making reading more than just an academic practice and allowing me to explode into the world of imagination. My reflection topic was much more geared towards how I communicate within the written word and the challenges I sometimes face generalizing lofty ideas to both the young and old. This is a consant pursuit of my own, keeping me reading more to learn more about effectively presenting an idea on the page. I am ever so greatful for the opportunity to share why I have such a passion for reading, and where I am challenged in the area of the written word.

  1. Brianna - Being your partner on this project I got to see the behind the scenes comments and stories that we wound up taking out and it gave me a great glimpse into your world. Your mom sounds so much like mine in her dedication to literature and how she brought you into her own little world of books and stories. I love your story about the 3rd grade "Watership Down" book that you wanted to read not for the content, but for the bunnies on the cover and the status you would get in your class (not to mention the pizza). It is a very relatable story for anyone that had those advanced reader books that got you candy or an early recess.

  2. The "Watership Down" story brought back memories for me too. I read it the year it was published. I think I was in junior high and I still remember Fiver! Your literacy story is very compelling; you seem to draw much from the whole experience of reading and not just the content of what you may have read. I am always interested in children of parents who enjoy reading. Some children that are read to and grow up with parents who model good reading behavior do not always mimic that. My childhood home was filled with books and both of my parents were always reading something. Most of my siblings enjoy reading but not all. I read to my own children daily and read everyday myself but not all my children enjoy it. It's a mystery. Sounds like you certainly caught the reading bug.
